Welcome to DAM'D

Firstly, Thank You for visiting. Your support means so much, I really do appreciate all the Dam Love :)

At 8 years old I first visited Holland in the Summer of 1988 with my Mum & Dad plus their friends. We stayed with their friend's family in a typically Dutch home in a small but quaint little village.  It was my most memorable holiday of my childhood. It's the little things that I remember most like the Frites always coming covered in Mayo (which I hated then!) and the look the Server would give my Mum when she asked for plain ones for me. The local grocery store having every flavour of Chewing Gum imaginable and generally no-one drove anywhere. The bicycle paths were back then very busy and most importantly the delicious Hagelslaag and Vlokken which I had on toast every single day for Breakfast tasted like the food of the Gods!

In my Teens, Holland became a distant memory and Benidorm became my family's yearly Holiday of choice. I never fancied Amsterdam as I wasnt a Joint Smoker and quite prudish at times. The City had this stigma for debauchery and excess back in the Nineties which if Im honest, frightened me.

But then, my big Sister hit Forty and she chose Amsterdam to visit for her celebrations. Again, I wasnt sure what to expect but knew I would be ok as it was a safety in numbers kind of feeling. Ill never forget the first sights and smells! I remember walking on to Leidensplein and it was so busy and chaotic yet it had this aura of calm and such a homely feel. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and other than dodging the bikes, I felt safe and so very happy.  We had a brilliant Weekend and no sooner had I landed, I was already booking to take my Husband as I knew he would love it as much as I did.

Years have passed and our Amsterdam trips are pretty frequent, Its our 'Happy Place' and we go as a couple, sometimes with our children and a few times we've taken our close friends. I can not describe the sense of freedom and joy I feel as soon as I walk out of Schiphol Airport.

Photography is another passion of mine. I am certainly not the best but I think my keen eye and ability to search out great composition means I do get a few good shots and capture the essence of the subjects that I am photographing. I'm a Canon EOS girl and generally you'll spot me stood on a bridge or sat outside a Cafe Bar sipping on a Heinken and snapping away when I visit.

My aim is to post at least one Blog every Month if not a couple.

I only hope my love for the place comes across in my Blog. I live and breathe Amsterdam, The Dutch cultures and most importantly the Beauty!
